We are pleased to introduce Paul Dixon as the new Managing Director of Dudley Associates.
Paul brings extensive experience in plastic injection moulding, polymer processing, tooling and manufacturing leadership. His career has been built within the plastics industry, beginning on the shop floor and progressing through a variety of operational and leadership roles.
Alongside that technical and commercial experience, it is Paul’s belief in people, culture and creating opportunities that makes him particularly well aligned with the future we are building at Dudley Associates.
A career in plastic injection moulding that began with an apprenticeship
Paul’s career began when he left school and started looking for an apprenticeship.
His aunt, who worked at Linpac/GPG at the time, told him about three opportunities: Service Engineering, Toolmaking and Polymer Processing. Paul chose Polymer Processing and began a four-year apprenticeship that would become the foundation for his career in plastic injection moulding.
“At that stage, I certainly couldn’t have predicted where that decision would take me, but it gave me an excellent grounding in polymer processing, engineering and manufacturing. Importantly, it also taught me the value of learning a business from the shop floor upwards.”
Working directly with injection moulding processes gave Paul an early understanding of how materials, tooling, machinery, process conditions and people must work together to manufacture reliable components.
That practical beginning has continued to shape his approach to leadership. Having experienced different areas and levels of a manufacturing business, Paul understands the contribution made by every person across an organisation.
Turning ideas into injection-moulded products
One of the things that first captured Paul’s imagination was seeing how an initial product idea could progress into a real, working injection-moulded component.
One of the earliest projects he clearly remembers was the Ford Focus. Seeing the product development process first-hand, and understanding everything involved in producing the finished components, brought the plastics industry to life for him.
It also highlighted the variety within plastic injection moulding.
A successful moulded component can bring together product design, polymer selection, toolmaking, process engineering, quality, production and commercial decision-making. Each discipline has its own challenges, but everyone must work towards the same outcome.
“Engineering and manufacturing bring together so many different disciplines, skill sets and personalities. You’re constantly working with different people to solve problems and achieve a common goal.”
That combination of people, technology and practical problem-solving has kept the industry interesting throughout Paul’s career.
Building successful teams
Among Paul’s proudest professional achievements was being part of, and subsequently leading, a team that won Tooling Supplier Partnership at the Plastics Industry Awards.
Although the award provided valuable industry recognition, Paul believes the greater achievement was the teamwork and collaboration behind it.
“Success like that doesn’t come down to one individual. It comes from creating a strong team, building the right relationships and having people working together towards the same objective.”
It is a principle he has carried throughout his career and into his approach to leadership.
Progressing from apprentice to Managing Director
From a young age, Paul had ambitions to run his own business. While that particular ambition has not yet come to fruition, progressing from an apprentice in polymer processing to Managing Director of a UK injection moulding and toolmaking business is a journey of which he is extremely proud.
For Paul, becoming an MD is not simply about the title.
“It’s about having the opportunity to influence the direction of a business, create the right environment for people to succeed and ultimately build something that everyone involved can be proud of.”
His own career progression has also reinforced the importance of development opportunities. One of Paul’s ambitions at Dudley Associates is to help other people build their skills, take on new challenges and progress in the same way that others created opportunities for him.

Paul believes that delivering this successfully requires more than good machinery, tooling and technology. It requires good people who understand where the business is going and the role they play in getting it there.
“Having a clear vision and a structured plan sets the tone for the organisation. It gives everyone a common purpose and a shared end goal. When people understand the vision, believe in it and can see how they contribute to it, that’s when you can build something really successful.”
This thinking closely aligns with the work already taking place at Dudley Associates to strengthen accountability, create clarity and build a business capable of delivering sustainable growth.
Looking towards the future
When asked what excites him most about joining Dudley Associates, Paul’s answer is simple: the future.
With Dudley embracing the EOS system, alongside developing technologies and tools such as AI, the business is putting greater structure around how it operates while exploring new ways to become smarter, more efficient and more effective.
For Paul, however, the real opportunity is turning that vision into something tangible.
“A vision only becomes meaningful when people can see progress and ultimately experience the results. Being part of the team that will deliver that journey is hugely motivating.”
There is plenty that we want to achieve as a business. With the right people, ambition, structure and technology, Paul believes there is a strong opportunity to build something special.
People remain at the centre
Materials, machinery and technology continue to evolve. Customer requirements change, and the technical demands placed on injection moulders become increasingly complex.
Throughout Paul’s career, however, one principle has remained constant: people make the difference.
People solve technical problems, develop ideas, manufacture tools, establish moulding processes, build customer relationships and deliver results. Paul’s ambition is to ensure Dudley Associates continues to grow without losing sight of that.
“If we can grow the business while developing our people and creating something we’re collectively proud of, then I think we’ll have achieved something very worthwhile.”
Outside of work, Paul enjoys golf, Formula 1 and football. His biggest passion at the moment is watching his son play for Dunstable FC U12, experiencing every kick of the ball from the touchline like any proud parent.
